At Roche, we believe it's urgent to deliver medical solutions right now - even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients' lives and we are fearless in both decision and action. And we believe that good business means a better world. That is why we come to work every single day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigour, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.
Who we are
The Roche Pharma Research and Early Development Informatics team is the bridge between digital technology and science. We are driving medical innovation and are integral to the realization of truly Personalized Healthcare and the development of innovative treatments for patients. The Advanced Analytics Postdoc Program aims at fostering frontier science and technology, engaging young talented scientists at the postdoctoral level, expanding and strengthening Roche's scientific relationships with academia. The duration of the Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship (RPF) program is initially set for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year. You will be based in Basel, Switzerland with possible stays at the academic partners.
What the position is about
As a member of the Roche Data Science team, you will focus on the research and development of advanced analytics approaches of sensor-based motion analysis for neurological movement disorders. The aim of this project is to gain the insights of motor characteristics in Huntington's Disease (HD) patients and improve the monitoring of disease progression or treatment efficacy via applying advanced analytics on multivariate time sequential skeleton sensor data of patients with movement disorders.
In this position you will
Benefit from working in a multidisciplinary team of scientists at Roche as well as disease area specialists to contribute directly to research and clinical projects
Apply cutting-edge analytical methods to investigate patient-tailored clinical outcome options
Have the opportunity to become a member of the Advanced Analytic Network (AAN) within Roche with exposure to multiple Roche analytical groups
What your responsibilities will be
Understanding the state-of-the-art analytic methodologies for sequential skeleton data representation and disease phenomenology
Identifying, extracting, and engineering clinically relevant features from the data to gain more understanding of the association of the motor phenotypes and the diseases
Implementing or internalizing robust machine learning models for motor phenotype recognition. The expected products include but are not limited to deep learning models on raw skeleton data or video data representation
Analyzing the correlation between the output of the implemented models and gold-standard rating scales
Publishing results in high-impact journals, and presenting them at international symposia.
Who you are
A highly motivated person with a PhD in computer science, mathematics, informatics, statistics, or a related discipline which was obtained not longer than 3 years ago. You have strong communication skills, are passionate about exploring new frontiers of science and willing to thrive in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver excellent results.
Ideal skills for the position include
Expertise in data analysis, statistical analysis, digital signal processing, machine learning (deep learning), time series analysis, skeleton-based locomotion data analysis
Knowledge in disease biology and phenomenology preferably in the area of neuroscience
Excellent skills in implementing your ideas (preferably in Python), and willing to learn and switch to any new tools and frameworks
Experience in publishing analytical findings in biomedical or clinical journals
A self-motivated and curious problem solver, with demonstrated planning abilities
All applications need to include a CV, motivation letter, a publication list and, if available, your PhD diploma.
Are you ready to apply? We want someone who thinks beyond the job offered - someone who knows that this position can be a rare springboard to many other opportunities at Roche.
