The Genetics and Genomics group, as part of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Roche Pharma Research and Early Development, supports discovery (targets, mode of action) and pre-clinical safety studies (toxicology, off-targets, mode of action), and clinical biomarkers in the disease areas of Neuroscience, Rare Diseases, Immunology, Infectious diseases, Ophthalmology, and Oncology. Our expertise is focused on DNA and RNA analyses (sequencing, single cell gene expression, spatial transcriptomics, qPCR, ddPCR), on data processing, and on communication of results.
In this position, you will:
be a student intern for 6 to 9 months, under the guidance of a mentor, starting August / September 2021 (with some flexibility)
be an integral member of a group of 20 scientists with expertise in Genetics and Genomics
implement and validate digital droplet PCR techniques to measure several new hepatitis B virus biomarkers
characterize HBV DNA fragment integration in the host genome by long read sequencing
design and conduct experiments in an increasingly independent way
analyze and report results to different audiences
have the opportunity to participate in additional drug discovery and development projects
Who you are:
A motivated student who is currently enrolled in a Masters level academic program
Have strong molecular and cellular biology skills, preferably with significant previous hands-on experience in RNA extraction, PCR and NGS protocols
Have intermediate bioinformatics skills, preferably with prior experience with NGS data
Possess a high level of initiative and independency
a proactive, open and transparent team worker
fluent in English
