Student Internship in Pre-Fillable Syringe Engineering within Device and Packaging Development, Biologics Europe (6-12 months)

In the Device and Packaging Development Department, we are responsible for the  development of medical devices, combination products and packaging systems for R&D portfolio drug products. Our activities comprise a wide range of engineering disciplines ranging from the initial definition of product requirements to first commercialization and subsequent product care considering required regulatory, legislative, ecological, economical and technical aspects.

As a Pre-Fillable Syringe (PFS) Engineer Intern, you will support the establishment of a world-class organization and gain technical expertise in the development, qualification and deployment of new injection systems. You will work on a variety of devices engineering activities, contributing to the development of innovative injection solutions for clinical and commercial use. This internship will offer you the opportunity to play an active role in designing the best injection systems for all new molecules in the field of ophthalmology coming through the pipeline. During your internship you will research and coordinate a significant project including:

  • Select and qualify ophthalmic administration devices solutions based on patient, product, regulatory, business or technical requirements,

  • Get trained to perform mechanical and analytical testing, 

  • Ensure compliance with international procedures and external regulations,

  • Author technical documentation and a scientific publication,

  • Organize resources and work streams with several functions and stakeholders,

  • Get in contact with external service providers, suppliers from different areas of expertise.


Who You Are

You are an enrolled student at a university, university of applied sciences or equivalent pursuing a qualification in pharmaceutical sciences, physics, chemistry, engineering, materials science or similar subject. Ideally, you have already gained first experience with medical devices, combination products or packaging systems. Above all, you should have a strong desire to further develop your capabilities in:

  • Innovative spirit and application of creative thinking with focus on the end-user,

  • Injection systems materials, processes and equipment,

  • Medical device regulations, industry standards and test methods (e.g. DIN/ISO, USP, FDA, and ISTA/ASTM),

  • Author technical documentation,

  • Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal communication skills,

  • English language proficiency required; knowledge of German an asset.
