The Position
We are offering an opportunity for an internship in our BGE (Blood Gas & Electrolytes) R&D team for process development to a team-oriented and motivated person.
Our team «BGE Sensor Manufacturing Process» develops, characterizes, and optimizes the manufacturing processes for sensors for medical devices in the area of IVD diagnostics to measure various parameters in whole blood (blood gasses, electrolytes and metabolites).
The sensors (electrochemical, optical, or enzymatic) are composed of thick-film based structures for which respective technologies and processes (printing, dispensing) are applied to enable a robust series production.
In this 6-9 month internship (can be adjusted according to the needs) you support our development team and get a hands-on insight into the complex and challenging sensor and sensor process development work for medical devices.
How can you support our team?
You collaborate with our technical experts in the optimization of production processes for thick-film based sensors (focus enzymatic metabolite sensors).
You perform experimental studies for deposition processes (focus on dispensing of enzyme and polymer solutions) using semi-automated dispensing systems.
Characterization of the process materials and processes with respect to performance and stability; for this, you have access to different analytical methods and tools (e.g. rheometer, surface profilometer, electron and optical microscope).
Documentation of the studies and their results.
Support the sensor development teams by preparing sample sensors with the latest manufacturing processes.
Who are you?You ideally have the following qualifications and experiences:
You recently (within the 12 months) completed your education or are currently enrolled as a student in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
You are looking to gather first experiences in an industrial environment and want to get the opportunity to get insight into the development environment in a leading medical device company.
You have a structured and self-reliant way in executing experiments and documenting their results.
You are an open, flexible and team-oriented person
You speak and write well in English (German skills beneficial).
Start date: as soon as possible
Workload: 80%-100%
Duration: minimum 6 months (with an option to extension)
If you're interested, please apply by submitting your CV and a cover letter stating your interest.
