At Roche, 98,000 people across 150 countries are pushing back the frontiers of healthcare. Working together, we've become one of the world's leading research-focused healthcare groups. Our success is built on innovation, curiosity and diversity.
That is why we come to work every single day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigour, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.
We are offering a unique opportunity to join our team in Basel!
Who we are:
In our Lead Discovery (LD) department in Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED), we integrate diverse protein and cell science disciplines to drive the discovery of transformative new medicines. We are dedicated to delivering therapeutic breakthroughs for patients in oncology, immunology, ophthalmology, rare diseases, neuroscience, and infectious diseases.
We are seeking a postdoctoral scientist to strengthen our Structural Biology group. This group supports drug discovery projects with macromolecular structure information for use in small and large molecule drug discovery. Its tight collaboration with CADD groups in small molecule and large molecule research and medicinal chemistry is a critical success factor for structure based design. As part of our Structural Biology group you work in close collaboration with Roche Diagnostics in Penzberg, Germany.
What does your work look like:
- Undertake structural studies of antibody-target protein complexes
- Prepare and characterize protein samples for X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy
- Optimize conditions for crystallization and cryoEM
- Plan, perform X-ray and cryoEM experiments, determine and interpret structures
- You collaborate closely with colleagues and leaders in multidisciplinary project teams across sites. You share your ideas and results by presenting in team or department meetings.
- Promote technology development within the structural biology laboratories and present and publish your results at conferences as well as in relevant journals
What else are we offering?
We are dedicated to support our staff in development of their knowledge and skills and offer further career opportunities where people demonstrate talent and aptitude!
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a committed individual who enjoys the close collaboration with the colleagues in protein production, assay development, screening and disease biology across functions and sites.
Additionally, you bring the following qualifications with you:
- Ph.D. degree in structural biology, biochemistry, or in a related discipline.
- Deep knowledge in structural biology technologies like X-ray crystallography protein biochemistry and biophysics. Expertise in protein expression and purification techniques. Experience in electron microscopy is a plus.
- Good time management skills: you are well organized and are able to multi-task
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Effective oral and written communication in English, German is a plus
- Curiosity for new scientific and technical approaches
Are you ready to apply? We want someone who thinks beyond the job offered - someone who knows that this position can be a rare springboard to many other opportunities at Roche.
